OUR PLANTS
Most of the plants we grow are propagated vegetatively or by
seeds from parent plants here at the nursery and elsewhere. All plants are
grown in containers in a potting mix composed of bark, sand, and peat or in
a greenhouse mix of peat, perlite, and vermiculite. They are fed with a
slow-release fertilizer to encourage normal, healthy growth. We mulch the
containers to reduce the need for watering and to prevent weeds. We do not
use herbicides at this time; we weed by hand.
VISITING THE NURSERY
We love company and encourage you to stop by and browse
through the nursery or wander the gardens (see inside back cover for
directions to Environmentals). We don't require advance notice, except
during the months of March and April, when our schedule is very tight. If
you want to visit during this busy time, please call in advance.
PRICING
We are strictly a wholesale nursery. We will not undersell
our competition or our customers. All prices on our price list are for
wholesale-quantity purchases—5 or more of any one species or cultivar.
Please add 10% to the price when ordering fewer than 5 of a single species
or cultivar.
Prices for some plants are set on a sliding scale. As an example, a plant
may be listed at a price of between $8.00 and $9.00. The spring crop may
sell at $8.50, then increase in price during the summer to $9.00. If we sell
out of the spring crop, we may then begin to offer a younger crop, which
would sell at $8.00. We believe this sliding scale is fair both to our
customers and to us.
GUARANTEE
We guarantee all the plants we grow to be healthy and, to the
best of our knowledge, true to name. If you are ever unhappy with a plant at
the time of delivery, you are always welcome to return it to us.
PAYMENT
Payment is required for all orders upon delivery or pickup,
unless credit has been previously established. A credit application is
available upon request. For customers with established credit, terms are
strictly net 30 from date of invoice with a 2% per month (24% annual)
service charge on all past due accounts. Accounts with balances beyond 60
days will become C.O.D. A $25.00 charge will be assessed for a returned
check.
SALES TAX
With the exception of deliveries to out-of-state customers,
New York state sales tax will be charged on all purchases, unless we have a
valid resale or tax exemption certificate on file. Purchases for
installation by landscape contractors are generally not exempt. Pickups by
out-of-state customers are not exempt.
DELIVERY CHARGES
Delivery charges apply to all orders that we deliver. These
charges are based on mileage and tolls and are applied as a percentage of
the dollar amount of the plants delivered. In the tri-state area, delivery
charges typically do not exceed 10%. We try to keep our delivery charges as
low as possible. There is a minimum delivery charge of $35.00.
PICKUP
Please give us advance notice of the date and time you want
to pick up an order, especially if you want the plants to be tagged. Tagging
the plants takes extra time and requires planning on our part. Pickup hours
are from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM and from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM Monday through
Friday, and on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. If you cannot come by
during these hours, let us know and we may be able to set your order out for
pickup at your convenience.
MINIMUM ORDER
There is no minimum order for pickups. The minimum order for
delivery generally runs from $300 to $800, depending on your location and
distance from the nursery. We can often pool deliveries of smaller orders,
so it’s not unusual for us to ship orders of less than $300. Please call and
we’ll see what we can work out. If no other method of delivery can be
arranged, we may elect to ship very small orders via UPS.
FALL PROMOTION
In our continuing support of the “FALL IS FOR PLANTING”
campaign, we offer fall orders in excess of $1,500 on a consignment basis to
our garden center customers. Fall is an excellent time to plant, and it
makes good sense to tempt your customers with fresh plants bearing the
colorful fruits and foliage of the season. Garden centers that have taken
advantage of this promotion have generally turned a nice profit—with no
risk. The consignment program begins in August and runs through November. At
the end of the season, any unsold plants in saleable condition may be
returned to us. Returned plants must match the plants listed on fall
consignment invoices. Please call when you’re ready to return consignment
plants so we can make arrangements to pick them up and settle your account.
We hope you will join us in supporting fall planting and take full advantage
of this consignment offer.
